Accalmie, Paris
Table
Mycelium (Ganoderma) and Belgian beech (Fagus sylvatica)
2024
233 L x 100 W x 75 H cm, 55 kg

The top of the table is grown rather than cut: mycelium cultivated on a wooden scaffolding, on a substrate made from the waste of its own fabrication. The species was collected in the Forêt de Soignes, where it grows on local beech. The title refers to the state the living material reaches after its explosive growth, a lull. Accalmie came out of the collaboration around In Vivo, the Belgian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023, and was shown in Entangled Design: Beyond Wood at the Collectible design fair in Brussels.
