Belgian beech wood and hemp lime
2025
Arborescence grows rather than stands. Its legs are hand-shaped in moulds from a hemp and lime blend developed by Cru atelier, then left to dry in open air, so they rise like young trunks, mineral and matt to the touch. Across them lies a single plane of heritage beech from the Forêt de Soignes, thirty millimetres thick, its outline cut and rounded by hand until the edge follows the eye rather than the rule. A piece about growth and becoming, held between a material that is grown in a field and one that took two hundred years in the forest.
Shown at Curated, the collectible design exhibition conceived by Lionel Jadot in the former Royale Belge building in Brussels.
Design: Cru atelier (Sarah El Yousefy and Nina Ouchinsky), with Sonian. Woodwork: Sonian. Photography: Cru atelier.
