IRIS TOWER, Brussels
Bespoke high tables
2024

This public commission for the Brussels-Capital Region was designed by the region’s architect Philippe Fierens, whose father was widely recognized as one of the best wood craftsmen in Belgium. Fierens has designed a set of three high tables with wooden legs that smooth elegantly upwards, reminiscent of the shape of beech trunks. The table tops have been worked into irregularly curved shapes, akin to the appearance of stones that have been rounded by the actions of water and time. Made from Belgian beech, the tables bring a piece of the Sonian Forest into the daily routine of office workers in the Iris Tower, a modern steel-and-glass skyscraper located close to the North Station in central Brussels. The tables complement the set-up of a multi-purpose space that serves primarily as a canteen, for informal gatherings and occasional concerts.
